What we eat directly impacts how we feel, how active we are physically and how we interact with ourselves, others and our communities
Our vision is for every Memphian to have a community garden and orchard in their neighborhood so sustenance is never more than a short walk away. By growing your own fruit, vegetables, and herbs, you’ll have the resources you need to meet dietary recommendations and reduce food insecurity for yourself and the family and neighbors with whom you share your harvest.
When you grow with Everbloom, we want you to feel supported and empowered. We’ll teach you both the theories and practice of growing from seed and managing your garden. We also share knowledge of how to harvest and use your food, from preservation like canning and pickling to safe food handling and basic cooking techniques. We’ll also teach you to reduce waste and return organic material back to your soil. Whether tending your own plants or reading a supermarket food label, your nutritional knowledge will grow with your garden.
Everbloom promotes both self-suffiency and interconnectedness. We encourage all of our growers to not only create access to their own sustainable source of healthy food but to rely on our network for support, connection, and camaraderie. Through our individual efforts and those as a collaborative community, we create an ecosystem that thrives through hard work and a willingness to share food, knowledge, and friendship. Even just working in your garden helps build cohesion and trust in your own neighborhood, sparking curiosity, community pride, and an openness to explore new opportunities.
Fruits and vegetables protect against a number of chronic diseases, including Shelby County’s three leading causes of death: cardiovascular disease, cancer, and stroke. Your garden is not only a source of these nutrients, but also another preventative measure: physical activity. Typical garden activities are great at burning calories, sometimes as much as a traditional work out. Plus, being in nature improves our mental health. Gardening lifts our mood, helps us be more mindful, and reduces stress. You also enjoy the sense of achievement and boost of self-esteem as you watch your hard work blossom.
